Current Information:Age-20 36, Arabin Road, Brockley Cabaret-Rouge British Cemetery, Souchez, France Between 8th and 14th May, 1916, 20th London of 141 Brigade, 47th Division, were in the front line trenches at Carency, near Souchez just to the north of Arras where a considerable amount of mining was being carried out by both sides. On the day that they were relieved, 14th May, 1916, the battalion diary simply recorded that it was a ‘quiet day’ and that the battalion moved back to Estree-Cauchy. However, it was not so quiet for Arthur Seppings who was killed in action on that day, probably as a result of shellfire which accounted for 60% of all deaths on the Western Front. |
